What is Reiki (prounounced ‘RAY-KEE’)?
Reiki is a gentle nurturing form of energetic healing. It was developed in Japan by a Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui in the 1920’s. A treatment generally lasts for 60 minutes and enhances the body’s own innate healing ability to promote wellbeing through clearing energetic channels. The beauty with Reiki is that it can work as a complementary healing practice alongside conventional and natural health techniques. It doesn’t interfere or diminish the effects of these and in fact may open the body to receiving treatments more favourably.
By ‘Laying of Hands’ a Reiki practitioner may be able to identify underlying blocks to healing and with the nurturing treatment allow these to release and create an energy flow. Bringing the body, a deeper level of relaxation, peace and harmony.
What to expect:
A typical session lasts about 60 minutes but the healing energy can continue with you when you leave. The healing energy you can experience allows you to gain clarity and awareness of how you are managing your own personal energy and allows you to change any limiting beliefs, old negative emotions, blocks etc. that are holding you back.
You don’t have to be in a place that you feel stuck to enjoy the benefits either. It is just a beautiful nurturing way to give you what you need at the time. Let’s face it we can all benefit from more peace and relaxation in this modern world.
When you arrive for your first treatment you will be greeted by your practitioner (that’s me!) and we can discuss any underlying concerns or painful areas etc. You will then lay on the massage bed (there is no need to undress for Reiki) you may want a sheet or blanket on as when you relax you can become cool and we want you to be as comfortable as possible. I begin by hovering my hands beginning at the head and then moving slowly down the body feeling for any blocks. There may be some places that need a bit more attention and therefore I will be able to tune into these spots for longer.
Occasionally my palms are placed directly onto the person’s body and this is to improve the energetic connection. You may feel some tingling, warmth or even nothing depending what is needed on the day.
You may feel very relaxed at the end of the session and that’s ok you can just take your time and we can discuss any feelings that may have arisen or any questions you might have.
I first began my Reiki journey 10 years ago and have since completed level 2 Reiki training and attunement and have been drawn back to practicing complementing my Naturopathy treatments.
Animals respond well to Reiki as well if this is something you might be interested in please enquire as each treatment is on individual basis depending where you live. It is ideal as it doesn’t cause distress or discomfort and distance healing can also be utilised.
